Nice to meet you
I’m Amy Costello, a trauma-focused counselor based in Austin, Texas. I work with individuals and couples, including those navigating medical crises such as complex pregnancies, NICU stays, and serious illness. My approach integrates EMDR, mindfulness, and psychodynamic therapy, with an emphasis on steady, thoughtful, and collaborative care.
At heart, I’m a writer and a listener. Before becoming a counselor, I spent two decades as a journalist covering human rights issues, including five years reporting in Africa. During that time, I found myself drawn not just to the stories themselves, but to the inner lives of the people sharing them. I realized I wanted to stay with people through their experiences, and, ideally, help them heal.
That work eventually led me to counseling and to supporting those navigating trauma, grief, and major life transitions. My clinical experience includes working with parents of medically complex children and those navigating medical crises, as well as adults and couples processing trauma histories and relational challenges.
